This week Georgia drivers will experience the 8th consecutive year in a row of “Operation Southern Slow Down”, a joint safety effort created by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the states of\u00a0 Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and Tennessee.<\/p>\n

WHAT IS OPERATION SOUTHERN SLOW DOWN?<\/h2>\n

Operation Southern Slow Down is a speeding awareness campaign driven by increased enforcement across the southern states. The campaign will run from Sunday, July 14 until Saturday, July 20th.<\/p>\n

State and Local law enforcement will be conducting this campaign with “concentrated enforcement on interstates and major highways.”\u00a0 This increased presence aims to crack down on speeding and aggressive driving.<\/p>\n

WHAT’S THE DATA?<\/h2>\n

Speeding endangers all<\/i>, over the last two decades it has been involved in approximately 1\/3 of all motor vehicle fatalities. In 2022 alone,\u00a0speeding-related incidents<\/a>\u00a0have killed 12,151 people, 52% of which were also not wearing seat belts. This accounts for 29% of all<\/u> traffic fatalities that year (NHTSA).<\/p>\n
