As manufacturers release new designs and models, the  \t IIHS awards one of four ratings:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height:1.6\">BEST BET: the seat\u2019s belt positioning on a child is correct in just  \t\t\t about any motor vehicle.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>GOOD BET: an acceptable fit of the safety belt is provided for most automobiles.<\/li>\n<li>Check Fit: the booster seat may offer acceptable belt fit for adolescents  \t\t in certain vehicles, but not in as many automobiles as in the first two  \t\t categories.<\/li>\n<li>Not Recommended: the child safety booster seat is not recommended for use  \t\t by the IIHS due to safety concerns.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These ratings are determined by measuring how well the three-point lap  \t and shoulder belts of each booster seat fit on a dummy the size of a child.  \t While the tests do not involve crash testing, they are still valuable  \t because they reveal whether children will be harnessed correctly in vehicles,  \t regardless of whether it is a car, SUV, or minivan. The correct fit of  \t a booster seat\u2019s belt would include a lap belt that goes flat across  \t the passenger\u2019s upper thighs, as well as a shoulder belt which should  \t cross over the middle of the shoulder.<\/p>\n<p>In 2014, more booster models received BEST BET recognition than in any  \t year before. Out of the 41 total new models, 27 received this highest  \t rating. Three more received GOOD BETS. That leaves eight seat models in  \t the Check Fit category and three in the Not Recommended category. Each  \t booster seat\u2019s IIHS evaluations can be found online at  \t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.iihs.org\/research-areas\/child-safety\/boosters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">www.iihs.org<\/a>. BEST BET booster seats can be purchased for prices ranging from$25 to  \t $370, so there is no excuse for dangerous child safety restraint systems.<\/p>\n<p>Jones &amp; Swanson, our law firm primarily represents victims of automobile  \t accidents.
